POTOMAC CONFERENCE RESPONDS TO VERDICT IN DEREK CHAUVIN TRIAL

Charles Tapp, President of the Potomac Conference releases the following statement regarding justice for George Floyd.

Staunton, Virginia - “The Potomac Conference Corporation of Seventh-day Adventist strongly affirms the jury’s verdict of guilty in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin in the death of Mr. George Floyd.

“Every man, woman, boy and girl is valued in the sight of God because we are all are created in the image of God. When injustice is perpetrated on one of us, it is perpetrated on all of us. And when one of us is harmed, we all suffer.

“The diverse constituency of the Potomac Conference necessitates that as a body we take seriously the spiritual and physical health, safety and well-being of all God’s children; and make no mistake, George Floyd was one of God’s beloved children.

“As a body of believers, we pledge to oppose evil, prejudice and oppression whenever and wherever it occurs. We join our brothers and sisters around the nation, yes, even the world, as we look to that time when the vestiges of bigotry, hatred and injustice are eradicated and peace abounds for all.

“Until that day, as members of the body of Christ, and disciples of the Kingdom of God, may we adhere to the words of the Savior found in Matthew 7:12, “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” NKJV

"May God have mercy on us all!"
