Why have men studied
All through the ages
Far from their home
In graduate stages?
The answer is plain.
“Sages and wages.”
There in the schools
The brightest minds rule
And new transmutation
Erases each fool.
Bye to earth’s stain
Good day to new sages!
Ivory towers are called
Such by the folk
That for luxury
Shoulder their yoke.
Poverty past!
By us you’ve good wages!
The disciples and Christ
With wisdom for ages
Were scorned as unlearned
By the local sages,
And with no place to stay
We infer their low wages.
Paul shared their pay
But did have the degrees
So when he was speaking
Did he aim to please?
His words were so simple
They angered the “sages.”
When you choose to learn
And then choose the place
I hope you won’t join
The sages’ rat race.
Don’t seek out the sages
Who say, “aim for wages”
Education's sage pages
Say "aim for the ages."
