Neither civil authorities nor others will take the warnings of Christians seriously regarding threats to religious freedom if Christians develop the reputation of spreading lies, fabrications, and exaggerations relative to such threats. Crying “Wolf!” for little or no reason may excite a political constituency, but it erodes the very credibility needed when genuine threats arise and warnings are raised concerning them.

In the continuing controversy in the Seventh-day Adventist Church over character perfection, the argument is often heard that those who believe such perfection can be achieved through heaven’s power during the Christian’s earthly life, base their position primarily if not exclusively on the writings of Ellen White rather than the Bible. Is this true?

What happens when moral or spiritual healing is experienced through the ministry of one who later falls into apostasy or egregious sin?

They were quite literally up against the wall. Nearly the entire chosen nation was now scattered among the heathen. A recent series of sermons, delivered by the president of a prominent supporting ministry in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, seek to prepare the denomination for what the speaker holds to be the imminent rise of totalitarianism in the United States, which he thinks will be characterized by anti-Christian atheism, Marxism, and socialism. But is he, in fact, anticipating the wrong tyranny?

Pardons for criminal behavior in the non-spiritual realm don’t necessarily require a change of heart or the renunciation of the crime committed. But God’s plan of salvation is entirely different.

A story from the siege of Jerusalem by the Roman armies reminds us of the perils of preaching imminent trouble without also declaring God’s promises of a way of escape and ultimate deliverance.

In both the church and society, some of the best and most needed standards of conduct can be tarnished by the inconsistent advocacy of those who either adhere to such standards or seek to enforce them. Such hypocrisy merits correction, pure and simple. But it doesn’t make the standards themselves invalid.
